Recipes To Get Your Mind Right: Mixed Drink Recipes from the Great Googa Mooga, in Brooklyn

Last weekend, New Yorkers relished the opportunity to take in the best the city had to offer in the way of music, food & drinks at the annual Googa Mooga festival in Brooklyn.  Despite a rainy backdrop, thousands of adults packed Prospect Park to listen to the likes of Matt & Kim and The Flaming Lips while sipping on some top-notch cocktails made by a few premier NYC mixologists.
Knowing that our readers love strong drinks, one of our good friends shot us a few recipes they had booming in their booth at the event. With names like Quiet Storm & One More Chance, yeah the groups performing might have been a bit on the rock side, but the drinks sounded all Hip Hop. Over all the 3 day event saw over 50 food vendors and 75 beer and alcohol manufacturers do their thing for the lovely people of BK. Heavyweights from the big East Coast in the form of food and drink on hand serving up everything from duck sausage to grilled Maine lobster and Guiness stout brownies to fois gras doughnuts, this years food line up was something to behold.

Check out these drink recipes for new ways to kick up your next back yard function, picnic or whatever you choose to call it.
Enjoy Responsibly.

Boodles British Gin

Gin doesn't always get the respect it deserves nowadays. With all of these fancy, colorful and celebrity-endorsed liquors coming out, the juniper berry derived nectar of the Gods somehow seems to fall by the wayside when drinks are being ordered. Boodles British Gin, a classic brand that was a favorite of Winston Churchill’s, stands tall above its competitors merely because of how smooth and mild its flavors are especially when mixed into a classic cocktail. A few years back, Gin was all the rage as people began re-experimenting with classic Martini recipes and other Gin based drinks. But as times changed and people began focusing their attention elsewhere, many brands were left shaking their heads in disbelief at how fast the climate changed in the world of mixology.

Boodles Gin, a longtime favorite libation base to quite a few of our British friends is not what you would expect it be considering its rather cost friendly price. Mixing up a couple of colorful cocktails yesterday after a long day in the test kitchen we decided two things; 1. Boodles deserves to be our house brand of Gin from here on out and 2. Boodles will have you not leave you with a headache the next morning (that is unless you're a sloppy drinker and you should probably be seeking help elsewhere, not in a bottle.) We took the smooth route and put a slight spin on a few old world classics such as the and had a quite relaxing evening, while plotting the next days debauchery out.

Our favorite drink of the night came simply from pouring 1 part Boodles Gin over ice into a chilled rocks glass, adding 2 parts Ginger Ale & 1 thin slice of Lime. I believe they call that a Gin Gin in certain circles but we ended up calling the “Gin Limey.” A few of those will have you ready for just about anything, so this is where you must make sure to have a designated driver close by, cause you will get hungry eventually.

The end result, get your hands on a few bottles before the weekend arrives and practice the fine art of cocktail making at home. Your friends will love you and appreciate your thoughtfulness.

The Brandy Alexander

January 31st is National Brandy Alexander Day. Being that its an old school drink that doesn’t receive the proper attention it deserves in this day & age we figured we would help to enlighten everyone about what exactly this drink is.
The Brandy Alexander is a sweet, brandy based cocktail consisting of Cognac and Crème de Cacao that became popular in the early 20th century. It is a play or variation of an earlier, gin based cocktail that was simply called an Alexander.

Cherries Jubilee Made At Home

Cherries Jubilee Made At Home.
Sometimes the ingredients we choose to use need a little sprucing up before we can actually consume them how we want too. In this case, the cherries we are using to make our Homemade Cherries Jubilee need to be flambéed (or set on fire) to bring them together perfectly with the Vanilla Ice Cream.
Be careful when trying to make this dish at home, its not overly hard to do, but if you have had a few drinks or aren’t familiar with the technique, when the fire does finally catch onto the alcohol, it may surprise you and we’d hate for you to get burned before you get to enjoy your hard work.
Enjoy this tonight when your kids get home from school or by yourself while everyone is gone, we’re sure you deserve some ice cream after a long hard weekend.
