Seeing as how that great day happens to occur on a Friday this year, we figured lets get to putting up some recipes in advance so everyone and their mama can have a chance to enjoy the greatest liquor to have ever been created, Rum. The good folks over at Owl’s Brew created a few incredible recipes for Captain Morgan and sent them our way, so in turn we place them in front of you.

Anisette the Teachers Pet & Surfers On Acid (Drink Recipe)

“Greg Nice called this girl named Anisette, Anisette the teachers pet you sure she’s gonna come on this set?” The previous lyrics came from a Hip Hop duo who went by the name Nice & Smooth in the 90’s and while they truly have nothing to do with the Anise flavored liqueur, the rhymes were forever imbedded into the minds of “Hip Hop Junkies” forever. What is the point of all this you ask? Well today just so happens to be National Anisette Day and while the taste of Licorice flavored drinks doesn't always rank high on everyone’s list of demands, there are those diehard fans who truly love their Jägermeister as evidenced by the drinks staying power and cult like following.

Enjoy National Anisette Day by guzzling down a few “Surfers On Acid” and watching the sunset later this evening. Even if you eliminate the sunset part of the plot, trust us you wont be mad, the drinks will have you more than charged for the remainder of the evening.

Surfer On Acid (Drink Recipe)
½ oz Jagermeister Herbal Liqueur
½ oz Malibu Coconut Rum
½ oz Pineapple Juice

Directions:
Pour all of the ingredients over ice in a large metal drink mixer & shake until the mixer is ice cold to the touch.
Strain into a large or old fashioned shot glass and enjoy.

Boodles British Gin

Gin doesn't always get the respect it deserves nowadays. With all of these fancy, colorful and celebrity-endorsed liquors coming out, the juniper berry derived nectar of the Gods somehow seems to fall by the wayside when drinks are being ordered. Boodles British Gin, a classic brand that was a favorite of Winston Churchill’s, stands tall above its competitors merely because of how smooth and mild its flavors are especially when mixed into a classic cocktail. A few years back, Gin was all the rage as people began re-experimenting with classic Martini recipes and other Gin based drinks. But as times changed and people began focusing their attention elsewhere, many brands were left shaking their heads in disbelief at how fast the climate changed in the world of mixology.

Boodles Gin, a longtime favorite libation base to quite a few of our British friends is not what you would expect it be considering its rather cost friendly price. Mixing up a couple of colorful cocktails yesterday after a long day in the test kitchen we decided two things; 1. Boodles deserves to be our house brand of Gin from here on out and 2. Boodles will have you not leave you with a headache the next morning (that is unless you're a sloppy drinker and you should probably be seeking help elsewhere, not in a bottle.) We took the smooth route and put a slight spin on a few old world classics such as the and had a quite relaxing evening, while plotting the next days debauchery out.

Our favorite drink of the night came simply from pouring 1 part Boodles Gin over ice into a chilled rocks glass, adding 2 parts Ginger Ale & 1 thin slice of Lime. I believe they call that a Gin Gin in certain circles but we ended up calling the “Gin Limey.” A few of those will have you ready for just about anything, so this is where you must make sure to have a designated driver close by, cause you will get hungry eventually.

The end result, get your hands on a few bottles before the weekend arrives and practice the fine art of cocktail making at home. Your friends will love you and appreciate your thoughtfulness.

Enjoy Responsibly.

Don't Drink & Drive

We love to promote foolery on all sorts of levels but one thing we don’t condone is Drinking & Driving. Please, get a designated driver, slash your own tires, do something to ensure you don’t kill innocent people or cost yourself thousands of dollars. It’s just not worth it.

Drink of The Day: The Don Q Bootsy Collins

We recently got our Rum Loving hands on some Don Q Cristal Rum and figured lets get to work instantly on testing this baby out. With National Rum Day, quickly approaching we have been promoting drinks that use rum all month and were really excited to try this brand out, as we have heard its mixability and smoothness is incomparable to any other brand on the market. That is a bold statement to make we know, but how many times have you made a mixed drink and all you taste is the overpowering flavor of one ingredient and not enjoyed your libation?

A five-column distillation process (done at an amazingly Clean & Green / energy efficient plant that we will get into further later) is used to create their amazingly smooth, flagship Rum that is aged from 1 – 3 years in American white oak barrels, resulting in an 80 proof Rum that is smoother than silk and refreshing in any and all classic cocktails you can pour up that call for Rum.
We can’t wait to really kick off the weekend with our newfound friend Don Q, to see what kind of adventures we can really get into and really report back to you on Monday.

Today we had to run with a recipe they provided us entitled The Don Q Bootsy Collins, fitting to say the least in our opinion.
Check out the recipe and more on their website:
Don Q Premium Puerto Rican Rum

Ingredients:
1 oz  Don Q Limon
¾ oz Fresh Lemon Juice
1 oz  Don Q Cristal (premium Rum)
½ oz Cinnamon Syrup (recipe to follow)
½ oz Elderflower Liqueur
a dash of Club Soda
1 Lemon Peel, washed and cut into strips or peeled to create twists

Directions:
For the Cinnamon Syrup, dissolve one part sugar and one part hot water, add 4 to 5 Cinnamon sticks and let it sit over night.
In a drink mixer, pour both Rums, Lemon Juice, Liqueur, Syrup and Ice, cover and shake until the mixer is ice cold to the touch.
Strain into a chilled, ice-filled Collins glass and top off with a dash of Club Soda.
Garnish with Lemon Peel & serve with a straw or Swizzle Stick.

The Spicy Oyster Shooter

The end of Summer is steadily approaching and with that we will need to start switching up our drink and dinner menus to fit the season accordingly. With it being the 1st day of September that means that Oyster Season has officially begun. September is home to some great food holidays and today is actually National Wine Seasons 1st day as well as National Cherry Popover Day.

With the amount of days we have to spend laying out by the pool dwindling it is time to introduce to you, The Spicy Oyster Shooter. Playing out like a Bloody Mary mixed with the most delicate sushi, this drink is one that can’t be passed up on. I am sure many people will get nervous when they hear it has an actual oyster in it, but with the spicy cayenne pepper, pepper vodka and celery salt, this thing will taste better than drink you have consumed after biting into the freshest of hand made sushi rolls.

Enjoy this often as Oysters are good for you (and for your libido according to who you ask.)

Hennessy Black Infused Peach Cobbler

Today is National Peach Pie Day, a great day for Americans everywhere. Peaches are one of those slept on great treats that don’t always get their due (well that is unless you live in Georgia and then you better not say shit wrong about a Peach or you might get stomped out.)
Now instead of making a plain old Peach Pie, we decided let us put you onto a great recipe that we came across while on vacation in Atlanta last year that infuses Peaches, Cobbler & the great libation known as Hennessy Black.

Peaches, liquor and cobbler go hand in hand simply because of how naturally sweet and juicy peaches are and how well they lend themselves to any form of warm sugary dough.

Yeah I know your wiping your mouth as you read this. So lets us not waste any more of your time and let you get to reading this recipe.
We noticed that using the Hennessy black instead of your typical Bourbon Whisky gives the treat an entirely new twist.

Nothing more needs to be said other than the fact that this dish is great. How can it not be, it combines two of the greatest things on the face of this Earth, Hennessy & Peach Cobbler.

Enjoy National Peach Pie Day with a big fat slice, plateful or what have you and a cold libation or glass of milk if you cant consume liquor with your desserts.
