TABASCO Original Red, The King of Hot Sauces.

This post brought to you by TABASCO® Original Red.  All opinions are 100% mine.

It should come as no surprise by now that we here at The Supreme plate, have a certain fondness for hot and spicy foods. Look through our previous years, Recipes of The Day and see just how many of them require a few dashes (or more) of Hot Sauce.

Not so much because we love to breathe fire, but because we understand what kind of compliments those elements can pay to almost any dish imaginable. A quality Hot Sauce can breathe life into a dish, evoking the deep flavors you worked so hard to get out of each and every one of the ingredients you carefully selected.

We recently performed a few blind taste tests to see which Sauce reigned supreme and not much to our surprise the winner hands down was TABASCO® Original Red. Introduced to the world by the McIlhenny family way back in 1868, TABASCO® is more than just your average bottle of Hot Sauce. Think of how many restaurants you have wandered into and either seen TABASCO® on the table, or when you asked for some Hot Sauce, TABASCO®, was brought to your table. The reason you see the brand everywhere is because they believe in consistency. It takes 3 years to age their simple concoction of Salt, Red Pepper and Vinegar to perfection. Truly that is no time at all when you consider about how TABASCO®, wont drowned out the ingredients in your dish, but rather support and uplift them.

With Super Bowl Sunday right around the corner, everyone is surely going to be scrambling to pull out the best dishes in their arsenals to impress their guests. Whether it be a big bowl of Hot Wings, gourmet Canapés designed to keep the fingers clean and the tone of the afternoon light or some down and dirty BBQ with strong libations close at hand, one thing must be available to keep the mood right in all of those settings, TABASCO® Original Red.

Tired of the same old menu on Game-Day? Well have no fear as the good folks over at TABASCO® have compiled a Game-Day Party Menu list of quick fixing, delicious meals and snacks to keep the crowd focused on the game and not the horrible question “whose going to make a food run during the game?” With choices ranging from Pizza, Wings Chili’s, Dips and Finger Foods, it will be hard to choose which ones to fill up on during what should hopefully be an action packed Super Bowl.
For those of you that keep it simple on game day and order up a bunch of Pizzas and Wings it should already come as no surprise that all you need in this case is a few cold drinks, some even colder ranch dip and some TABASCO® Original Red, to top off your pizza and take it to a whole new level.                                                With the Pizza Perfected Menu, you can check out 10 new ways to “Doctor up your delivery” and make the Game Day a sure fire hit.
My personal favorite on game day is either a huge plate full of our Spicy Sangria Shrimp, with a few cold Micheladas (both recipes can be found down below,) or our Spicy Black Bean Hamburgers. Of course, the Burgers, Shrimp and the drink are infused with the wonderfully light, but heat packing flavor of TABASCO®, Original Red or it just wouldn’t seem right.

Recipe Of The Day: Black Bean Hamburgers

Just in time for Super Bowl Sunday this meatless recipe is a surefire hit with those who wish to have a meatless meal, that still packs in a lot of great flavors. The black beans, TABASCO, Original Red and Cilantro mix together in these burgers with the mayo and salt to form the most creamiest of burgers that screams for a slice of avocado on top.
Enjoy these burger on Game-Day or any day as they are truly healthy and delicious.

Recipe Of The Day: Spicy Sangria Shrimp

We got a recent request for a Shrimp recipe we had done at the top of last year, by a follower of the site who said they couldn't believe we were able to infuse the great flavors of both Sangria and Shrimp and have them come off lovely.

Well just so that we are clear, this recipe was a complete adaptation of something we had caught on a show, that we mixed with something we had tried at a restaurant in Huntington Beach, CA. The idea came after having numerous libations and copious amounts of Shrimp and then saying why not add a decent amount of spice and put these two flavors together.

Here is what we were able to pull off after a few tries at correcting our spice and alcohol levels.  Each and every-time we make this dish, it gets devoured before it has any sort of chance to cool down so we know we have done something right.

The greatest thing about this recipe is that all of the flavors go together wonderfully and nothing overpowers the fresh taste of the Shrimp.

Le Creuset, Culinary Artistry With A Sense Of Style

It’s a well known fact, when someone makes a large purchase that proves to be worth its hefty price tag years down the line, they feel good about their decision making abilities and themselves. Especially if that product is something that is going to see years of rigorous work, sometimes day after day depending on ones style. No one likes to buy something and have it quickly break only to have a loud mouth friend or relative say those 7 annoying words “Well, You Get What You Pay For.”
Cooking and serving ware are no different. In fact you have to really take a look at what you are using while cooking or serving a meal and see what it says about your personal sense of style. Yes we all have a few cherished pots, pans, skillets and plates that match nothing in our cupboards, but we clutch onto them dearly like a scared old lady does her handbag in an elevator, for sentimental reasons.
But all of that has nothing to do with purchasing something for yourself, now does it? With that said, take a look at the following Le Cresuet products and think about how having a matching set of cooking and serving ware creates an ambiance, pulls together a room and quickly sets the tone for what should presumably be an amazingly cooked meal.

In Caribbean Blue, the Small Oval Serving Bowl (18oz) is perfect for holding just about anything you could wish to bring to the table in large amounts before dishing out individual portions.
In the same Caribbean Blue color way you can also get the new Le Creuset Wok Dish, which is sure to get a few looks from their stylish approach to the classic design of a Wok. This dish is great because of its Versatility, as it can go from the oven or microwave straight to the table (a great way to spruce up some take out you brought home trying to impress your date.)

Everyone should own a fresh pitcher to serve some drinks from. Every now and then people want to have fresh Lemonade, Sangria, grown up Kool-Aid or whatever kind of libation you may feel like sipping on and you don’t want to be the person pulling out that plastic pitcher with the twist off lid your mama had when you were a kid. This version is heavy, so it wont be easily knocked over but yet not so heavy no one can pick it up to pour from it.
We have said it time and time again. Le Creuset makes products that are well beyond the worth of what the price tag says it costs. I have a pot that has been handed down a few times and is over 50 years old. I have never had any issues using it, cleaning it or storing it. The great things about Le Creuset is, they offer a variety of colors to fit everyone’s lifestyle and home decorating choices and they make products that will truly last a lifetime.

Recipe Of The Day / National Lobster Thermidor Day

Today is National Lobster Thermidor Day. Ok so for most of the free world what the hell does that exactly mean? Let us give you a bit of a history lesson real fast, then we can get into just how delicious this dish is.

First off, Lobster Thermidor is a French dish consisting of a creamy mixture of cooked lobster meat, egg yolks, and cognac or brandy, stuffed into a lobster shell, and optionally served with an oven-browned cheese crust, typically Gruyère. The sauce must contain mustard (typically powdered mustard).

Lobster Thermidor was created in 1894 by Marie's, a Paris restaurant near the theatre Comédie Française, to honour the opening of the play Thermidor by Victorien Sardou. The play took its name from a summer month in the French Republican Calendar, during which the Thermidorian Reaction occurred, overthrowing Robespierre and ending the Reign of Terror

Due to expensive and extensive preparation involved, Lobster Thermidor is usually considered a recipe primarily for special occasions.
A related lobster recipe is Lobster Newberg.
Enjoy!

The Green Ribbon Collective

Nothing says "We Love Giving Back To The Community" better than being available to help those in need 7 days a week 365 days a year. The Green Ribbon Collective has taken the ultra positive stance in saying “Fuck Cancer” and we The Supreme Plate are here to support them in anything they may do, to help find a cure to the silent killer that is known as Cancer.

Many of us have had to watch as a person close to us, has had their life torn apart from the vicious disease and accompanying treatments that exist at this current time. The guys at Green Ribbon are always courteous, cautious with their advice and kind to a new face who may seem to be feeling like many others at this time, that they are getting lost in shuffle due to the current costly health care crisis plaguing America.

Whenever you stop by either of their clean, spacious and always fully stocked stores let em know who sent you and above all else make sure to let them know that you are there to support the “Fuck Cancer” cause.

There are going to be a lot of good things to come from their recently opening the Riverside store on Magnolia as they have quite a big piece of property that just screams to have a cafe or lounge of some sort inside of it.

For more information on Green Ribbon and what they have to offer to you and your loved ones who may be suffering from any one of the multitude of life altering problems out there,

Recipe Of The Day: Buttercrunch Toffee

Buttercrunch Toffee. Some people may have no clue what that is because it just isn’t as popular as it used to be. Hell it was never even really popular in my lifetime, but I wont front and act like I don’t like it. Today is National Buttercrunch Day and so I wanted to whip up a quick batch and put up a recipe for everyone to check out. This is the type of dessert that can last in the house about as long as you don’t remember it is there.
Say what you want about Toffee, but with the cold glass of milk that stuff is better than Crack. Not that we have ever smoked crack.
Enjoy this recipe with your kids, friends, coworkers and everyone who needs a bit of cheering up in their life.

Recipe Of The Day: National Peking Duck Day

Today let us rejoice in the great Holiday that National Peking Duck Day. Ok maybe that is a bit much. But Duck is incredible. People either seem to love it or hate it and if they haven’t had a perfectly seasoned and cooked Duck, they most likely will hate it. Then they usually start going off about other foods they hate and well the story goes downhill from there.

That is why we here The Supreme Plate, are glad that Peking Duck has its own day, that will hopefully entice people to give it a chance and put it on their plates and in their stomachs.
Something can be said for some crispy duck wrapped inside a warm fresh crepe. For those of you that haven’t had this incredible dish, you might need to be slapped upside the head. Ok we won’t go that far but it is truly some of the most amazing simplistic food you will ever have in your life.

That is to say you can pull off the crepe as it should be done. Don’t overcook the crepe and don’t undercook the Duck that’s just a bad evening waiting to happen at that point. You want to make sure that you have the perfect balance of the crispy skin, sliced Duck meat, scallion, cucumber and Hoisin sauce in your crepe.

Hoisin can be found in most major supermarkets on the Asian foods isle and for those that are leery of buying things they don’t know, Kikkoman makes a nice low sodium version that will work great for this recipe.

Yeah yeah we know its the New Years and you started off with a great diet plan and your hitting the gym and enjoying feeling healthy. But when that runs out and you know it will, we will still be here for you.
Not to say that we do not post healthy meals, recipes and ways to lighten your life up while still enjoying great tasting food. With that said, frying foods for the most part has probably been cut out of your diet for the time being, but right around the corner is Super Bowl Sunday.
I can bet that most of you will be enjoying a few foods that you would have avoided had you not been so caught up with great company and hopefully some rather strong libations.
Today being Hot & Spicy Foods day we wanted to give you a quick bit of fun with these "Hot & Spicy Hush Puppies w/ Apricot Marmalade Dipping Sauce."
When your doing eating 10 or 15 of them, give us a quick shout and let us know what you thought.

Recipe Of The Day: Hot Toddy

Just in time before the cold season leaves us comes this incredibly easy to make Hot Toddy Recipe which is great for those days where you think your starting to catch a cold or already may have a cold (or just want to get warm and saucy at the same time.)
This recipe calls for a few shots of Whisky and a diced up Habanero Pepper to add some real heat at the end.
Many of you may not actually know what  Hot Toddy is, no its not something that Jay Z and Usher made up for that lame dance song they had in 2010. It is a drink that was enjoyed usually by elders who felt the need to warm up right before going out into the cold wet conditions they lived in or before going to bed.
Enjoy.

Recipe Of The Day: Spaghetti & Turkey Meatball Skewers

Today being National Spaghetti day, means that we have a special day ahead of us. Of course not everyone can make a great bowl of spaghetti, you know what I mean, one that isn’t dry or full of bland sauce that just screams “dump this shit in the trash as quick as you can and run!”

This Spaghetti & Meatball Skewer recipe is something to print out and tuck away for numerous reasons. The first one being that the spicy tomato sauce goes so great with the turkey in the meatballs and then when you put all the ingredients together and gently fry them to perfection, become somewhat of a welcomed attack on the tastebuds.

Another great thing is that these skewers easily win those kids with picky appetites, grown ups who think they have tasted it all and of course that foodie friend of yours who thinks they just have the greatest skills seen by man in the kitchen and are never impressed by anything they witness.

Soulful Sunday - The J.B.'s "Doing It To Death" (Parts I & II)

Classic. Get in the kitchen and get your life in order for the new year. Thats all I am going to say.

Soulful Sunday - George McCrae "I Get Lifted"

Recipe Of The Day: Shrimp Stuffed Sole

New Years has come and gone. The frenzy of trying to be at the right moment just before midnight is now a memory, one that most of us don’t even care to remember. The thing that we should remember is who we spent that moment with, when the clock struck midnight as we welcomed in 2011. To everyone who has followed us, asked us questions or even recommended something to us, we wish to say Happy New Year and may whatever you set out to accomplish this year, become one step closer to being done.

With that said on to our first Recipe Of The Day: Shrimp Stuffed Sole w/ an Amazingly Quick Pan Sauce.
Sole is one of those fish that many people know nothing about, because it usually doesn’t take center stage on any menu. More of a classic standby this fish really doesn’t get its proper respect so we set out today to give you a quick recipe for something that will blow your guests minds and fill their stomachs with possibly the best seafood dish they have eaten in their lives.

This light dish, void of grease and over cooking, is simply something to behold. Nothing says “hey I put time into this dish, so obviously I must like you, or else we’d be eating Fish Filets” like Shrimp Stuffed Sole.

This goes great with a light bottle of Moscato, Sangria or plain and simple Bacardi & Pineapple Juice.

Enjoy and again, Happy New Year.
