ROTD: Steak Taco Salad

Going into the Fall / Winter seasons, after such a long hot & grueling Summer can be tough for many people. After months of starving ourselves to keep those beach and poolside bodies in shape (yeah right like we starve ever over here) it seems like the winter months hit us fast & hard with all of the fattening dishes we just love to eat.
Much like the animals we take care of, most of us start to put on that “Winter Coat” that we always find ourselves trying to frantically lose prior to Summers arrival next year.

This Steak Taco Salad recipe was taught to me (yes taught for I was not into salads at all prior to making a few very special friends) and has been track tested and proven time & time again at our various backyard BBQs & functions.

Don’t let the list of ingredients scare you, most of these things you will most likely already have in your home. This light & healthy Salad pulls together quicker than you can imagine, once you have your taco bowl shells and grilled the steak, your in the final stretch of the race.
Full of great flavors, invigorating ingredients (nothing that will make you feel sluggish or in need of a nap after eating,) this hearty dish is the prefect way to say farewell to Summer and the ultimate way to welcome Fall.

Quick Summertime Salad ROTD: Skirt Steak & Arugula Salad.

Its hot. Everywhere you go, you hear people either praising the fact they can shed their Winter clothes or complaining they their car doesn’t have an AC so therefore they are dying of heat stroke on the daily. With that being said, sometimes when it is hotter than one can imagine, you just cant help but not be hungry, even after working a long grueling day in the heat, but “ya still gotta eat or ya might die,” like my Mom used to say. And eating junk food just to fill the stomach is something we don’t condone in these parts. Enter today’s Recipe Of The Day: Skirt Steak & Arugula Salad, something that packs protein galore, more flavor than Flav and is healthier than just about anything you will find at the local drive-thru.
The great thing about this ROTD, is that it can be made ahead, packed up correctly and taken to work to enjoy while everyone else has to slide over to El Pollo Loco or Wendys.
Sit back relax and smile, your eating good today.

The beast that is Summertime is quickly approaching. Never mind that Spring just landed, we know once the rain stops the beaches, hiking trails and outdoors will be calling upon us all to get out and enjoy a little time in the Sun.

Escarole & Pancetta Salad

We got a few emails today asking for meals that truly took less than 15 minutes to make from start to finish. We understand how frustrating it is to work a long day for someone who we sometimes hate, only to sit in traffic for hours to get home and have to make dinner for either yourself or the family.
Sometimes simplicity is the key to sanity and in this instance, simple reigns Supreme.
This salad is a quick and easy meal that can be eaten by itself or alongside a steak, fish, chicken breast or even some warmed up leftovers from the lunch you couldn’t finish at work today (cause you way too busy slaving right though your lunch break right?)
Enjoy!

4 Garlic Cloves (Smashed on a cutting board by a skillet)

Pear, Endive & Gorgonzola Salad

Growing up I was one of those kids that didn’t fade salads too much, if ever at all. Luckily I grew up outta that phase and learned that a good salad is the key to much more than staying regular and healthy. A properly put together Salad, creates the perfect balance when eating a meal, allowing the stomach to actually digest all that you are consuming at that moment.
Keeping things different and creative by knowing how to put a little twist on an old favorite allows you to spice up life and avoid falling into a boring routine. This Belgian Endive, Bosc Pear & Gorgonzola Salad is another one of those “must master” recipes that you will want to pull out on friends sometime at a party right before you serve your guests the Bone in Porter House Steaks & Grilled Lobster Tails.

Recipe Of The Day: Grilled Chicken Caesar Salad

Sometimes simplifying things is all it takes to make life that much more enjoyable. A huge dinner consisting of 5 or more courses is a great thing to come home too, but after a long day at work, who has the time or desire to knock all that out on the regular? Think about it like this, after 12 months of eating whatever came your way, now is the perfect time to implement some salads and lighter based meals into your diet to help start off 2012 just right.

To be light on your feet is crucial these days. We are starting to see the effects hard living has had on many of our peers. With friends and loved ones passing away in their 30’s and 40’s from illnesses that are usually only seen in people well above 65, it is now more apparent than ever that we need to change the way we live. Stepping back to Look at how we eat, drink and exercise, this next year is going to be a busy one for The Supreme Plate. Starting with changing the scope of how we view ourselves as well as how we help maintain a positive lifestyle for our viewers is one of the most important goals of this site.

With all of that said, let us hit you with a delicious recipe for a Grilled Chicken Caesar Salad that takes little to no time to put together and is healthier than probably everything you consumed in 2011.

Enjoy!!!

Pear & Bleu Cheese Salad w/ Cashews

Thanksgiving is a few days away and for many people that is reason enough to overeat, or eat everything in site like they were fresh home from doing a decade on a deserted island. Whatever your reasons may be for devouring multiple plates like it was your last meal, consider the fact that you may want to prepare your stomach for all that you are about to consume in the days ahead.

Introducing a bit of regularity in your life is a good thing when it comes to promoting intestinal health. Salads are the perfect super food to help keep you running like a well-oiled machine while expending a lot of energy and if you add a piece of protein such as Chicken or Salmon you will have the ultimate healthy meal.

Today being National Cashew Day, Enjoy a huge bag of Nuts with your loved ones, or let your loved ones enjoy your bag of nuts. I am sure it will be a fun time for everyone involved.

Fruit & Gorgonzola Salad w/ Proscuitto

Today being National Eat A Peach Day, we wanted to put up a healthy recipe that was quick and easy. Now anybody can wash off a peach, cut it up, add some chilé salt to it and call it a day, but what fun is that?
We have a salad that we put together on those warm nights where nothing sounds good, but still everyone is hungry. Now for those of you out their who do not choose to abstain from eating pork, you can omit the Proscuitto and put in some nice smoked peppered turkey, diced chicken breast that has been cooked and cooled or whatever your heart desires.
Like with most recipes (baking not included) they are only meant as guidelines to getting the job done, you can make subtle changes and variations as you go to suite your liking.
If your on a low / no carb diet, avoid the bread and this meal is a winner for everyone.
Enjoy.

Creamy Chicken & Pasta Salad

We have been bumping into a lot of people who think they either don’t have the skills or the time it takes to cook some of the meals they see on the site and I try to tell them they couldn’t be further from the truth.

Planning out a meal isn’t hard as long as you have all of ingredients measured out (mise en place) in front of you and your focus is on the task at hand. Often times people begin to cook a dish and either the phone rings or someone walks into the house and they take their focus off the food and what happens next, the roast burns, the chicken catches fire you name it, we have heard it.

Today your going to make a simple Creamy Chicken & Pasta Salad that will resemble something you paid too much for, at your favorite restaurant for your entire family and trust us when we say they will love it.
This recipe right here is very easy to pull off, because one of the most important ingredients can be purchased from any quality grocery store, already prepared. We are talking about a Rotisserie Chicken, roasted to perfection by your local Grocer.

Enjoy this recipe this evening or try to make it ahead and take it to work with you the next day (if you plan on doing that, do not put all of the chicken / pasta mixture over the salad greens as they will be come soggy overnight.)
This salad goes great with Stella Rose wine, Mint Juleps, Sangrias and of course a glass of sweet Moscato.

Recipe Of The Day: Spicy Lobster Cobb Salad Rolls

Seafood and salad, what a great combination. There is nothing like having a fresh salad with the right dressing topped off with either some delicious Tiger Shrimp, blackened Salmon or grilled Lobster, we are going to use Lobster today because we feel like it works great with the vinaigrette.
The citrus and Balsamic Vinegar in the vinaigrette mixed with the crisp lettuce and juicy lobster meat is like an explosion of flavor in each bite. True Lobster can be a bit expensive but if you catch your local store at just the right time you can either get some amazing fresh Lobster tails at a phenomenal price or as a substitute some great priced King Crab Legs & Claws.
This salad is great for any day of the week because it truly doesn't take much time to make and is rather inexpensive depending on what form of seafood you choose to run with and is really healthy for you.
If your going to try for the lower carb style of meal, forget the roll all together and double your salad serving.
Enjoy!

Recipe Of The Day: Tuna Tataki & Watermelon Salad w/ Lemon Wasabi Dressing

With today being National Watermelon Day and us getting such an amazing response to yesterdays Seared Tuna recipe, we figured why not make one of our most favorite salads? The Tuna Tataki Salad, a staple in our test kitchens (when we feel like eating healthy that is) and is a dish in which each and every bite is loaded with explosively astounding flavors.
The marinated watermelon becomes so moist and juicy, but not overly mushy and soft as you would expect it to become. The crispness of the mesclun greens and freshness of the avocado slices are brought to life with the light and airy Lemon-Wasabi Dressing.

But with all of those beautiful ingredients, comes the masterpiece of finishing touches and that is the Seared Tuna. Beautiful Sashimi Grade Tuna takes center stage in this recipe and shines like the deep blue oceans it once swam freely in.
This is a great recipe for Summertime (or anytime for that matter,) because it is light and full of healthy ingredients, which makes it perfect for aiding in recuperating from a previous night of drinking, dancing or whatever you may have done that has you feeling washed out.
Enjoy!!

Recipe Of The Day: Chopped Apple Salad w/ Toasted Walnuts, Bleu Cheese & Strawberry Vinaigrette

Summertime calls for lighter eating, but most of us never heed that word. This Summertime salad is light, healthy and exploding with flavor unlike some of these sad rabbit food looking concoctions we have been seeing in restaurants lately. The strawberry vinaigrette tops off the crunch from the toasted walnuts and tang from the bleu cheese crumbles deliciously.
The added sweetness from the chopped apples just helps to keep everything flowing smoothly together, instead of weighing down your plate like a few slices of chicken breast would normally do.
Enjoy this early in the day or late at night, it wont leave you feeling sluggish when your finished, we promise.

Recipe Of The Day: Grilled Steak & Papaya Salad

This recipe right here, needs no special story to make it sound appealing, no healthy kick of ingredients to make you feel guilty for what you ate yesterday, no not at all. This recipe right here, stands alone on its own merits as possibly one of the best steak and salad combos you will ever make for yourself and your loved ones.
Never mind the fact that every single person who puts a bite of this dish to their lips will most likely sing your praises for the next 6 months, just trust us and make this salad this weekend (seeing as how it almost Memorial Weekend and most of us haven't so much as made any plans to get the BBQ going, right?)
The photo alone makes me wanna rip off my monitor and take a bite so that lets you know its on point.
Enjoy!
