The National Food Holidays of November

As we round out the last two months left in 2011, we have to thank a lot of people who have helped to have gotten us thus far, for without them, their dedication to our dreams and hopes and of course their love, we would not have made it to this point. We also must sadly remember those that we have lost and hope that peace is with them on the other side. This year, November will be the ultimate month for changes in scenery, weather and attitude in many people.

As the East Coast can attest too, the warm Sun rays we have been enjoying all year have already faded and it is time to start bundling ourselves up with our loved ones and some good food while drinking some strong libations to get the cold out of our systems (Don't Drink & Drive WE DO NOT CONDONE THAT.)

The Amount of food that is made in the month of November far outweighs almost every other month of the year. This year do the right thing and make something for someone less fortunate, or suffering hard times who just can't find the strength or desire to cook a good meal. Your doing more than you know, simply just by giving someone a warm meal.

Toasted Angel Food Cake w/ Grilled Peaches

We are all about being honest here at The Supreme Plate. So let us be honest, it is not always in someone’s best interest to attempt to make all of the required dishes for a party, plus the desserts by themselves without a little help or planning. Have you ever found yourself cooking for a group of people, working meticulously with your time, only to find that there isn’t enough of it and something will not be getting made?

Today being National Angel Food Cake Day, we wanted to make a dessert that uses an actual Angel Food Cake, but in a way many would never think of trying to eat it.

Our Recipe Of The Day is Toasted Angel Food Cake w/ Grilled Peaches and it is something that must be tried out in every household, especially with Thanksgiving waiting right around the corner.

To take the pain out of having to first make the cake, we are going to substitute in a classic Duncan Hines box mix (for those of you who know how to make an Angel Food Cake with no hassles from scratch by all means use your recipe) to eliminate a good hour or so worth of work.

The greatest part about this recipe is the Grilled Peaches. Make sure to have your grill hot and ready, plus oiled up so that the peaches don’t stick to it. After a few minutes on each side those Peaches are going to look and smell so wonderful you might not let em even make to the plate to be served with the cake.

Enjoy!

National Trail Mix Day - The Best Trail Mix You Have Ever Had, We Promise.

Everyone could use a bit of healthier eating in their lives. Well unfortunately for the most of us, the healthier food is usually the least attractive thing to eat. This recipe for Homemade Trail Mix includes deliciously healthy ingredients such as walnuts, pecans, raisins, apricots, cherries and more and is really simple to make.

With it being able to sit at room temperature without spoiling for a week or two you can make this in batches and have it to snack on throughout your day to help avoid eating multiple handfuls of whatever junk-food your currently consuming.

Dig In & Enjoy.

National Creme Brulee Day

Desserts hold a special place in my heart. As a child growing up, I was without a doubt the pickiest eater in my family. Every meal basically revolved around whether or nor I wanted to eat something found on the menu, at the establishment of choice. But over time my family discovered a sure fire way to get me to act accordingly, and that came in the greatest form of payment known to mankind, bribery.

If I knew before hand that we were going to a place that had just one single dessert that I liked, most likely I would be a perfect angel the entire evening. One evening while visiting my Grandmother who lived just a stones throw away from the beach in San Clemente, I was introduced to something that would later play a small part in inspiring me to attend culinary school, Crème Brulee.

Crème Brulee, a wonderful dessert made of Crème Anglaise and Burnt Sugar, at the time to me was the most fascinating thing I had ever had the chance of eating. That dessert has long stuck with me and has been ordered on some of the most amazing nights of my life, where food has played a part in making wonderful memories.

Having introduced many of my friends to it over the years, I feel like each and every time I pass on the knowledge of such a delicious treats existence, I am tipping my hat in honor of my beautiful Grandmother who to this day, checks in to see if I am eating what I like and what makes me happy.

In my Grandmothers honor and in honor of National Crème Brulee Day, I give you my personal Crème Brulee recipe.

Enjoy!

Recipe Of The Day: Pecan Pie

July 12th is National Pecan Pie Day. And the sad part about that is, that millions of people have never had the joy of eating a really great homemade Pecan Pie.
Many people are scared to make their own pie crust at home, whether it is because it is uncommon these days to roll out your own dough or because people just never really learned how too.
The two greatest thing about making your own dough are that for starters you are in control of what ingredients are going into your food and secondly your learning a skill that can be passed on to future generations for years to come.

Too often we get caught up in the ease of using store bought mixes and ready made products. In many cases these products are life savors and great flavor enhancers, but let's face it, when it comes to pie dough, breads and baked pastries, it is really hard to beat a homemade treat that you created with your own two hands.
This recipe uses my great grandmothers pie dough recipe and incorporates a filling that is used at a friend of ours restaurant, known for their Pecan Pie.
Enjoy this recipe and try it out on your loved ones, it will surely be a hit.

National Food Holiday / Recipe Of The Day: Apple Turnovers

A turnover is a kind of pastry made by placing a filling on a piece of dough, folding the dough and sealing it. Turnovers can be sweet or savory and are often made as a sort of portable meal or dessert, similar to a sandwich.

It is common for sweet turnovers to have a fruit filling and be made with a short pie like crust or puff pastry dough. Savory turnovers generally contain meat and / or vegetables and can be made with any sort of dough, though a kneaded yeast dough seems to be the most common in Western Cuisines. They are usually baked, but may be fried.

Savory turnovers are often found in convenience stores and in supermarkets often with Beef or Chicken and have to meet a standard of identity or composition, and it must contain a certain amount of meat or poultry.
